My dear fellow fashion mavens,

It seems that finally, Spring is nearly upon us. At least that's what those weather folk on high would have us believe. Personally, it still feels a bit nippy to me, although I have seen some strange people wandering around without tights already. Perhaps they have some kind of invisible, Jedi leg heater, that the rest of us can only dream about.

The fashion frenzy that is Fashion week is already well underway, with the sighs of adoration for the next big fashion looks, audible everywhere you go. I'm concentrating on the here and now and the loveliness that is the latest frock drop. There is literally a frock for everyone's taste. I am a huge fan of anything bold and bright, so this season's bold florals are just my thing. I almost swooned at the sight of a floral lovely in the window of Hobbs last week. Really, I felt quite giddy with excitement. I'm also loving the fab 50s and lace numbers that are all over the place right now.

There are some that I don't like the look of though. Hollywood A listers seem to be mad for Louis Vuitton's broderie anglaise dresses. Frankly, I think they look like something your mad Aunty Mavis would make for you at Christmas. They look like lace doilies gone cuckoo! I'm also not a big fan of pastels. I don't really understand pastel shades. Why have baby pink, when you could have a totally hot fuschia?, why have peppermint, when you could have a funky lime green? I won't be trying any of those on, for fear of looking like a giant sherbert dibdab.

However, my dear Evettes, two of the hottest looking ladies in town at the moment are Adele and Beyonce and it's got nothing to do with what they are wearing. These two foxy mamacitas are in love and it shows. Adele is clearly not bovvered by Mr Lagerfeld's unexpected 'fat' comment. She's winning awards everywhere, is totally loved up and is looking fierce!

Beyonce's just had a little girl and is equally loved up with lil Blue Ivy. She's looking a little curvier than usual, but frankly, I'm just relieved that she's taking the sane person's route and planning to lose her pregnancy weight at a normal rate. Don't you just want to force feed these celebrity mothers pie and crisps, when they chirp on about how the weight just fell off them in 2 days!!!

Both Adele and Beyonce are my sheroes at the moment for demonstrating that love is the absolute best accessory you can have and it's guaranteed to make you look a 1000 times better than a face full of botox or a diet that makes you want to cry.

So remember Evettes, Valentine's Day may have been and gone, but you can still get the love and look absolutely fabulous.

Going boldly where no man has ever gone before

My dear Evettes,

I do so love it, when fashion offers you something you really want. I'm talking this time about those 'magic' frocks, that have all kind of panelling to make you look strategically slimmer. I mean, what's not to like? a dress that makes you look va va voom, without having to stop eating for days and no risk of being suffocated by your spanx!

They are all the rage at the moment. Kate Winslet loves Stella McCartney's little number so much that she bought it in both colours ( I do love a savvy shopper). However, due to the unfortunate bust detailing, I thought she'd been abducted by aliens and replaced with a scary lady shot putter.

The thing is, why do they all have to look so weird? All the different colour panelling and thick seams can be a little off putting for a foxy style maven like myself. Really, they are starting to remind me of some of the more scary fashion moments from Star Trek. Let's face it, no-one looks good in dodgy coloured, piped spandex. These fashion folk are very clever, can't they come up with some other trick to make us look fashiontastic? How about a discreet little toggle on either side, that you pull and pouf, your waist is 2 sizes smaller? How about a foxy little number with deflatable peplum? The possibilities are endless when you set your mind to it.

Personally, I shan't be allowing Lil Eve anywhere near this look. I fear that Social Services would take her away for crimes against fashion.

You've got the love

Dear Evettes,

February is upon us already and everywhere you look, the lurve fest that is Valentine's Day is being urged upon us. Personally, my love affair with fashion is a year long event, so I don't need any encouragement!

It seems I'm not the only one with a serious case of the love bug either. Last week was Paris couture week. That week long fashion extravaganza, where designers get to let their imaginations run free and come up with the most amazing outfits. These are the gowns that cost the equivalent of the GDP of a small nation and are so show stopping that they can probably only be worn once. The usual FROW suspects were in attendance, Diane Kruger, Olivia Palermo and Cameron Diaz to name just a few. With the Oscars just around the corner, you can be certain that Hollywood's fashionistas will be rocking out in some of these delish numbers. I've often wondered at the irony of the fact that designers lend these dresses to the very people who could probably afford them. Ah, the heady scent of free publicity!

Anyhoo, for the rest of us, we can be sure that while the gorgeous frocks won't make their way to the high street, they will influence the trends we see. Drop waists, florals and peplums are already big news on the street.

Something else that has got my heart all aflutter and is infinitely more affordable is the Spring/Summer shoe shop. There's something about the sight of the first summer sandal, that makes me come over all unnecessary dear ones. You will be absolutely overcome with delight at the array of lovelies, hitting the shops as we speak. Fierce florals, techicolour peep toes and seriously fierce metal tips. My dear fashion mavens, you are limited only by how well you can balance on these killer heels. I realise that osteopaths the world over are shuddering in horror as I write this, but really, there's plenty of time for sensible shoes when I'm 90. Although, I am planning a blinged up scooter for transportation if necessary, so maybe not. I'll be the style queen with the grey rinse, whizzing past you, rocking some sculptured heel.

All I need now is some equally luxe jewellery to go with my new shoes. At my favourite jewellery haunt, allabouteveshop.com, there's something to go with everything. Emperor's new clothes anyone?

My dear Evettes,

I must confess to an inordinate love of awards ceremonies. This time of the year is bliss for me. The Golden Globes, The Baftas, The Oscars- need I go on?

The reason I love them so much is the opportunity to gawp at Hollywood's finest, all dolled up in their glitz and glam. However, sometimes I have to scratch my head and ask 'what were you thinking?' A case in point is the dress, Jessica Biel wore to the Golden Globes. I know she's a very attractive woman, with a killer bod, but that dress. She looked like a schizophrenic Miss Haversham- all covered up lace and draping and then almost split to the crotch!

Another culprit is the 'Victoria' dress by Victoria Beckham. It costs £595 and frankly it looks like a prime offering from Primarni. Not that I have anything against Primarni, it's just, you get what you pay for and it usually doesn't cost too much. Apparently Hollywood A listers are swooning over said dress, with the actress Michelle Williams stepping out in the black and white version.

Finally, it is with much horror that I note that turbans are actually back in fashion. Really? Turbans are really only fashionable for ageing stylistas who are still lost somewhere in the 70s or Aladdin impersonators. Approach at your own peril!

The thing is, I wonder is this a case of the emperor's new clothes? Is everyone afraid to say what they really think because these things have been deemed fashionable? Once again, I say, be stylish, not just fashionable. I adore Victoria Beckham's main line of dresses and handbags, but the diffusion line, 'Victoria', not so much. It looks like it was designed and run up by a bunch of evil fashion elves.

I am prone to random musings and this week's random muse, is about those small classified ads at the back of my favourite fashion magazine- Look.

There's all kinds of fashion goodies to be had. Clothes, shoes, bags, jewellery, even hair. I know some of you may feel that I have too much time on my hands (and you may be right), but I wonder what goes on when the lights go out.

Do they have a divalicious HQ like Eve Towers? do they have a creative genius like Mrs A at the helm? do they have a fierce style maven, like myself? mostly importantly, do they have a fabulous fashion elf like Lil Eve?

Here at Eve Towers, we do our best work in the wee hours. Mrs A literally dreams of fabulous new jewellery. She's working on 2 new lines as we speak- the Dunni range and the Ore range. As for me my dear Evettes, I find inspiration everywhere for our weekly chat. Lil Eve doesn't need to work hard, she's just naturally talented.

The names Simpson- Wallis Simpson

My dear Evettes,

The Queen of re-invention herself has made her big screen debut recently. I'm talking of course about Madonna and her film based on the controversial love affair between King Edward VIII and American socialite Wallis Simpson. Critics of the film aren't convinced about the accuracy of the film, but dear Evettes, I'm enthralled by how very stylish Mrs Simpson was. Contrasting Madonna's array of 'bare all you can' looks with the rather prim and ladylike Mrs Simpson is truly chalk and cheese!

The 30's have been a major source of inspiration for spring/summer 2012 and the great British High Street does not disappoint. There is an absolutely delicious geometric print dress from Wallis, that would suit me quite nicely, dear ones.

However dear Evettes, the key to the Wallis Simpson look is luxe jewellery. Ladylike pearls, fabulous brooches and stunning earrings are all essential parts of this look. Haven't I seen you somewhere before?

The New Year is firmly upon us- albeit with some oddly warm weather!

I was very excited to get my hot little hands on the latest editions of my two favourite fashion magazines, to check out what I will be looking forward to wearing in 2012. Imagine my surprise when I saw the hot 'new' trends being forecast. Neon brights-anyone remember the 80s? bra tops? just one word- Madonna, hi-tops- Run DMC or any 80's rapper worth their salt. I had a distinct feeling of deja vu. It seems however that the fashionistas are in good company. The Duchess of Cambridge is apparently having an 80s themed 30th birthday bash.

Don't get me wrong, I like evergreen fashion as much as the next girl. However, when the weather's cold, you've got mince pie induced belly bloat and the next bank holiday seems aeon's away, you want something a little bit new and exciting. Happily there are some little gems out there, that feel a little fresher, although some of them are frankly a bit scary!

Wet suit dresses- sounds a great idea in theory. However, I can't get unpleasant thoughts of wipe clean PVC dresses and seedy men in macs out of my head.

Wearing a trench as a dress- see above and add cold street corners.

Flapper dresses- really only for the genetically blessed, 7ft Amazonian's, with minimal curves. The rest of us will probably look quite tragic.

One trend I do like the look of though is hand bling. Chain linked rings or rings and bangle creations. Here at Eve Towers, we're always brimming with fab new jewellery ideas and will be bringing out some absolutely blinging lovelies later this season.

New Year's resolutions you will actually want to keep

After the huge build up, Christmas has been and gone. I hope Santa was suitably generous and brought you everything your little heart desired. If not, that's what gift receipts were invented for, trade up my lovelies!

With the festive over indulgence now over, our thoughts start turning towards New Year's resolutions. That list of overambitious tasks we set ourselves at the beginning of the year, only to find that we've broken every one them by the end of January. Here are some of my favourites:

Go on a diet: we all make that one, but crumble in the face of a lovely hot pudding, on a cold winter's day. Why would anyone get to the end of the day and find they can't have dinner, because the diet police say you've exceeded your calorific needs for the day????????

Go to the gym: see above and add ' but it's raining!!!!!!!!!!'

Spend less/save more: my dear Evettes, the very clever Mr Eve has explained why the economy is in a state and the bottom line is, someone's got to start spending and pretty sharpish! So you see Evettes, it's your civic duty to shop until you drop. Do it for Queen and country. I can't promise you a New Year's honour, but you'll certainly look fabulous.

Anyhoo dear ones, I have resolved to make only one resolution this year and it is 'to be even more fabulous in 2012 than I was in 2011'. The beauty of this resolution is that it can be as big or little as you like. I plan to be an absolutely awesome fashionista in 2012. Clothes, shoes, hair, make up and mad feminist credentials will all be spot on.

As we celebrate our first Christmas together, I can't begin to tell you how excited I am!

I know how much you look forward to my little pearls of fashion wisdom, how you hang on to my every word, how you obey my every fashion edict. Wait, no, stop, I'm having that dream again, where I'm the Queen and everyone does as I say. Ah well, a girl can only hope I suppose.

The Christmas season is far spent now Evettes and I do hope that you are all appropriately turned out for the festivities. I hope no-one has overdone the Christmas glitz and now resembles a slightly dubious Christmas fairy. I trust you have all shopped wisely for magic underwear and that no-one has indeed been suffocated by their spanx! And finally, should anyone find themselves doing the walk of shame after the office Christmas party, I trust that you remembered to stash an emergency change of clothes, so that only the milkman and other 'shame walkers' know your secret.

Fashion: the final frontier

My dear Evettes,

Last week was one of fashion extremes. Victoria Beckham won designer brand of the year at the British Fashion awards and Italian 'It' girl Eleonara Carisi, inexplicably took to the streets of New York bra-less, wearing a sheer Stella McCartney blouse!

I know that Christmas is fast upon us, but I find myself asking: are there some looks that are too fashion forward???????.

Animal print jumpers, sadly are still with us. I'm with Bridget Jones on that one, they are simply too vile for words and should not be seen on anyone over the age of 5! Mini/maxi dresses, one word: why? Finally, statement eye make up. Now, don't get me wrong, I like to mix it up as much as the next girl. Eyeliner, anywhere other than inside, top or bottom lids is just weird. Why on earth would anyone think eyeliner defining the eye socket is a good look? Glitter all the way round your eyes. It looks like you fell face first into a bowl of glitter! And possibly my most hated look- a smear of red, pink or orange eyeshadow. Just makes you look like you've got conjunctivitis and/or are moonlighting as a clown.

I know that there are a lot of you fashion mavens out there, going boldly where no fashionista has been before. However, if your look makes small children cry and dogs whimper in terror, then you have reached the final frontier.

Happily, all I need to complete my sci-fi look is some lovely stainless steel jewellery from allabouteveshop.com. I'm particularly loving the steel 'click it' bracelets and the column necklaces.

Decembers Birthstones

Tanzanite, Turquoise and Zircon are December's birthstones.

Tanzanite: It was named so by Tiffany & Co in the 70's. It is said to have been discovered when a piece of Tanzanite was thrown into a fire instead of a rock pile. It burned an incredible violet blue colour and retained this colour even when cooled. The Masai believe blue to be a sacred spiritual colour and as such give the stone to women on the birth of a child.

Turquoise: This gemstone came from Persia (Iran) and is known as "Ferozah" meaning victorious. Apache warriors believed if turquoise was affixed to their bows the arrow would always find its mark. It is also believed that Turquoise fades when danger or illness is near or when a lover is unfaithful!

Zircon: This is found in a myriad of colours. There is a lot of folklore about Zircon. An ancient Indian tale told by poets is of a bright glowing tree with bejewelled leaves of Zircon given as a gift to the gods. Jewish legends say Zircon is the name of the guardian angel sent to watch over Adam & Eve. Zircon is said to be the gemstone of purity and innocence.

Hmmm, how do I accessorise this gold medal?

Dear Evettes,

I can't believe how quickly the year has sped by? is it really December already??????? Of course 2012, is the year we host the Olympics and it got me musing about how to accessorise a gold medal. Do you go for the LBD option and let the medal do the talking? Or do you go for the full on blingtastic approach?

Of course dear Evettes, if there was a gold medal to be had, for services to fashion, I would humbly hope to be considered. Gold does look so very good on me of course!

Actually, what got me thinking, was an article about Ashleigh Nelson, the 20 year old, sprinter, who hopes to represent Britain at next year's Olympics. She's a fashion photography student as well as an aspiring Olympian. Before you shudder in horror, (I'm thinking of any number of outfits worn by Serena Williams at Wimbledon!)I think that's quite a good combination. As she says herself, she's got a sportswoman's body and she needs to know how to dress it. It got me pondering some other unusual combinations:

Lawyer/fashion stylist- looking good as you get carted off to prison.
Farmer/Hip hop artist- maybe a good rap, will help those veggies grow.
Accountant/actress- bring a little drama to the grey, grey world of accounting.

Whilst, there aren't any gold medals to be had at all about eve, we do have loads of lovely, shiny, golden goodies for Christmas. Take your pick from the gold circle earrings or the gold plated beauties that come in four colours. At £15 a go, you could have them all!

It's Christmas, I need all the help I can get

My dear Evettes,

I know we usually talk about fabulous fashwan, but this week, I feel we really must talk about those little things that keep us looking so great in our gorgeous party frocks. That's right, I'm talking about underwear.

As I always say dear Evettes, life is too short to be suffocated by spanx! Happily, there's a whole array of fabulous underwear, designed to make you look great, without cutting off your circulation. I must confess that until recently, I was not fully au fait with these little lovelies. Then I got Gok'd. The ultimate wrap dress comes with a magic slip. I'm ashamed to say Evettes, that I had no idea how to wear it and ended up shoe-horned into it like a Christmas turkey. To my eternal shame, I had to go online to find out how it was supposed to fit. Who knew it was supposed to sit under my bra, to give me some serious cleavage, as well as smooth out any lumps and bumps??????

Anyhoo, I'm pleased to report that there is magic underwear for every occasion. Hourglass waist? yes please; sculpted bottom? J-Lo in the house; full control? va va voom. Best of all it means you can still eat all the mince pies you want.

The only question left, is what to wear over this underwear. Apparently quilting is big news at the moment. I don't see the point myself, why would I invest in magic underwear and cover it up with industrial quantities of bubble wrap? I say bodycon all the way Evettes, if you've got it, flaunt it. Personally, I shall be rocking my wrap dress with the luxe Abilene necklace from allabouteveshop.com.

All hail the Christmas fairy

Dear Evettes,

Do you realise that there are only 35 days left until Christmas??????? Now I know that some of you are very organised folk and I commend you for that. I, on the other hand, can usually be found collapsed in a heap, a gibbering wreck on Christmas Eve, because I have failed to complete my Christmas shopping! Unless I approach it with military precision, you can be sure that I will be phoning the parents of my respective nieces and nephews, asking if I can get something else on the Christmas list, because the one thing, they absolutely must have is sold out.

One thing, I do like about Christmas though (apart from all the scrumptious food of course), is that it's mandatory to get all gussied up. When else can you get all done up and not be accused of being a reject from TOWIE?. This year Evettes, the Christmas fairies have excelled themselves. The shops are full of opulent, OTT fashion. The Versace/H & M collaboration is bursting at the seams with 'in your face' louder than loud prints. I've never been a fan of printed trousers, on acount of the damage I might do to the impressionable minds of dogs and small children. However, there's a pair in the Versace collection, that I'm deperate to try on.

All you fashion magpies out there, rejoice! The shops are awash, with gorgeous metallics. The silver, bow courts, from Topshop are divine. Luckily, you don't need to do too much to get the look. Lace is a lovely way to get the look. Don't stop at boring black, go for bright jewel colours and pair it with statement jewels and some seriously foxy heels. Velvet is another excellent choice. Careful, with the styling though, you don't want to look like Miss Haversham on a verrrry bad day. Go for curve loving, drapery or fabulously rich colours. Finally, that old faithful- the maxi. Bold prints, silk, sequins, the choice is yours.

As for accessories, the bolder, the better I say. The green or blue murano glass lovelies from allabouteveshop.com are just begging to be worn. The crystal heart bracelets look luxe when you layer them up, 3 deep.

Marriage_the ultimate in disposable fashion?

My dear Evettes,

With the advent of shops like Primarni, New Look and Forever 21, it's never been easier or quicker to get the catwalk look for less. Whilst I personally have grown out of my love of disposable fashion, there's definitely a place for it.

This week however, I'm pondering a different kind of disposable fashion, a la Kim Kardashian. Having married in a lavish ceremony, in August, it's reported that she and her husband have split and she has filed for divorce. Apparently, she says 'he's not the man I married'. Of course he's not dear and I'm guessing that you're not the woman he married either! Everyone knows that you're on your best behaviour in the run up to the wedding. After the wedding, out come out all the dodgy habits, that had been firmly kept in check during the courtship period. Cutting toenails in random places? check; dodgy eating habits? check; gruesome underwear habits? double check!

The point is, marriage requires work and I don't think 72 days is long enough to say you've given it your best shot. Bruno Mars also seems to be a fan of this fashion, if his 'marriage song' is anything to go by. One of the lyrics says, 'if you wake up and want to break up, that's ok', having got married on a whim.

Personally, it leaves a bit of a sour taste in my mouth Evettes. If you're going to get married, take it seriously and give it your best shot. Happily lil Eve is many moons away from getting married. The only disposable items in her wardrobe are her nappies!

November's Birthstone

November's birthstones are Citrine and Topaz.

Citrine is a stunning vibrant, glowing yellow stone. It was first used in jewellery in Greece. It is believed to be the gemstone of happiness, useful in stimulating mental capacity, enhancing creativity and self confidence. Citrine ranges from lemon to golden yellow to madeira red, which is why it is sometimes mistaken for Topaz.

The Sanskrit meaning of Topaz is fire, this is apt as Topaz ranges from yellow to yellowish brown. However it also comes in green, blue, red & pink. The Egyptians believed Topaz was the gem of the sun, they believed it was coloured by the sun god Ra. Greeks and Romans also believed it was coloured by their sun god Jupiter and that it increased strength. Topaz is one of the stones set in the breastplate of Aaron and also set in the foundations of the city walls of Jerusalem.

Last week, Grazia magazine did a piece on make up, called 'what's your make-up age?'. They made some good points (not that I agreed with them all!).

They had a motley assortment of the usual 'make-up offenders'- although, strangely enough Katie Price was absent, perhaps, because she's just too far beyond the pale these days. I just don't understand why Katy Perry, at 27, is never without layers of dreadfully ageing make-up and dodgy hair colour.

Anyhoo, it got me thinking about fashion and how old your clothes make you out to be. Now, don't get me wrong, I remember those hideous days, when anyone over 40, was consigned to Viyella and elasticated waistbands. Happily, women over 40 are free to shop anywhere they want and rock out in pretty much anything they want, as evidenced by Elle Macpherson looking totally smoking in silver skinnies, doing the school run.

However Evettes, with freedom comes responsibility. Just because you can, doesn't necessarily mean you should. These are some of my own pet peeves: shorts-day time, night time or even shorts suits. No matter how beautifully they are styled, they always remind me of a delinquent 5 year old.

Any look that involves the use of a hat, be it a fedora, a floppy 70's number, a trilby or a bowler. Why does anyone want to look the spy who came in from the cold or an escapee from the 70s?

Finally, everything on show. Too tight, too short and waaaay too much cleavage. It's great that some of you smoking hot mamas out there, really do look like Elle Macpherson. Nonetheless, most times, less really is more. Leave a little something to the imagination. The suggestion of something is often far more exciting than having it all hang out.

One place where you can be as big and baaad as you like is accessories. Iris Apfel, a ninety year old fashionista is the queen of the outsized bauble and isn't shy about piling them on either. I'm with her. Why wear one strand of pearls when you can go for a four strand mash up? why limit yourself to one bracelet, when you can layer on four or five? My dear Evettes,

I am pleased to announce that I have been 'Gok'd!. As I mentioned last week, the lovely Mr Gok Wan has designed a gorgeous capsule collection for Sainsbury's. I hot footed it down there last week to pick up some swag for myself.

Evettes, what can I say??????? the cheongsam dress, the perfect fit pant and my absolute favourite- the ultimate wrap dress. Dear ones, that dress does things for my booty that should be illegal! It's never looked better in its life. Evettes, the outfits are worth every penny, proceed immediately to Sainsburys and get yourselves Gok'd too- it's the law.

Now that I've got my own style swagger sorted, I think it's only fair that I pay attention to others. Is it just me, or has the X Factor lost its style mojo? Frankly, there have been some downright scary fashion moments from the finalists this season and it's only 4 weeks in. We've had Johnny dressed like a geisha girl, Misha B, looking like a giant purple one from Quality Street. Don't even get me started on what they've done to the poor girls in Little mix! I know it's a new team and they are out to make their mark, but really people 'get a hold of yourselves'.

Rant over and back to my own new stash of clothing heaven. All I have to do now is sort out how to accessorise my new fabulousness. Should I go with the crystal heart bracelet or the pearls? or tap into the Navajo trend and go for an Ankara bracelet? decisions, decisions.

Our time together is up I'm afraid. Lil Eve is working the animal motif on top look and her mouse is looking a bit hungry. Ciao!

Fruit, veg and 2 dresses please

My dear Evettes,

Do you remember those distant days, when we only went to the supermarket for our weekly shop? And when the supermarkets started selling clothes, they were things we wouldn't be seen dead in? Personally, I don't think being dead is any excuse for letting standards slip. I will be personally picking out my 'going away' outfit. Fab outfit, fab shoes and some gorgeous arm candy. I shall be going as I lived Evettes, a style maven to the end.

Anyhoo, back to supermarket clothing. I must say, that the supers have really upped their game recently. They all seem to be competing to see who can get the catwalk lookalikes out the quickest. I myself am partial to a bit of Florence + Fred (Tesco's clothing range, to those of you, not in the know). Tesco seem to be going full steam ahead for total retail world domination. They sell literally everything these days! I fully expect to hear that they've started selling body parts. Can you imagine the bogof offers?????? 'buy one leg, get the other half price', 'three for two on a liver and two kidneys' and '5p off on every litre of blood'.

However, Sainsbury's are fighting back, with a range designed by Gok Wan. There are some pieces in there, that quite frankly Evettes, I lust for. There's a fabulous red wrap dress, that's just crying out to be taken home by me. A black panelled dress, which is just the thing to disguise the dreaded 'mummy tummy'. Don't even get me started on the perfect fit trousers. If they can make my bottom look that good, then I will live in them! They are all very reasonably priced, so there's enough left over to get some fab accessories.

Dear Evettes,

Woohoo for the blast of absolutely scorching weather that started last week. It was fantastic! Unfortunately, I fear it's all down to global warming, but it felt so goooood. Is it wrong to be delighted by unseasonably balmy weather? Well, we're back to more usual weather now. As I write this, it's pouring with rain, in grim West London.

However, dear Evettes, there is a silver lining, to every cloud. Now that the weather is back to it's usual self, my thoughts have turned to how to keep warm. Yes, my dear ones, coat season is upon us again. Truth be told, I don't actually mind what the weather's like, as long as I can keep warm.

I've been having a peek at what's out there and I'm spoilt for choice. I am a sucker for bright colours. As the colour blocking rage shows no signs of abating, the shops are filled with fab coats in a vast array of sweetie colours. I didn't get the whole 'cape' thing last year. Honestly, it reminded me of something that Margo, from the Good Life might wear. However, since they are still with us, I think I might give them a twirl this season. There's also some fun to be had with faux fur. Gently does it though, stumbling down the street, resembling an escaped Yeti, is not the look we're going for!

One thing that I will never be lured back to though is a duffle coat. The very mention of it sends shivers down my spine and brings back very bad memories of 'THE FIRST DAY BACK AT SCHOOL'. It was really quite tragic, my fellow fashionistas. It was an unholy trinity of : no style on my part; practicality on my mother's part and a sea of either navy or black duffle coats in the shops! I have destroyed all photographic evidence of those dark days and am pleased to announce that the style free zone is now permanently behind me.

Invasion of the great British High Street

Dear Evettes,

It was an invasion that Attila the Hun would have been proud of. My good self and a trusty sidekick hit Oxford Street recently. The trip was planned with military precision. Our ETA was planned to avoid aimless tourists and peak time travel ( a girl's got to save money somewhere!). Unfortunately, our arrival time was scuppered by lil Eve, who decided at 4am in the morning that enough sleep had been had by all and made her feelings known at a very high volume!

Anyhoo, after propping my eyelids open with matchsticks, we arrived at our chosen destination, yup you guessed it- we were headed to Primark. Well dear Evettes, what can I tell you? I was gobsmacked by the sheer range of affordable fashion available. I've never really investigated the delights Primarni has to offer and I was suitably impressed. It was fascinating to see how egalitarian, the shoppers were: tall/short; fat/thin; young/old; women sporting £400 handbags and some with no handbags at all. It was a real life picture of the stylists adage-"never wear anything head to toe, mix it up".

Dear Evettes,

I've had quite a few adventures in fashionland I can tell you. Baggy tees and leggings, puffball skirts, palazzo pants are just a few that spring to mind. They aren't bad as fashion goes, they just didn't suit me. Mind you, this was before I discovered the difference between fashion and style.

Since then, I've come up with a few fashion rules, to help me step away, from the trends that just aren't meant for me. Nothing too onerous, just common sense really: if I don't really like it in the shop, I'm going to like it even less when I get home; if it's so tight, I have to lie down and breathe in to get it on, then no, cos frankly life's too short to be suffocated by spanx! and finally, accessories really do make a look.

Which is why, it's great to see so many fab accessories in the shops this season. Given that fashion is having a canter through the '40s, the '70s and the '80s, I'm spoilt for choice. I like this new 'evergreen' approach to fashion, because it means I never have to throw anything away, as it's bound to come back into fashion at some point. I can get with this whole vintage approach Evettes.
Personally, I'm feeling the retro '70s look. I've got some fab purple suede ankle boots and I shall be pairing them with a fab coral pendant from allabouteveshop

'40s ladylike is also quite delicious. I've got just the right ladylike Jaeger handbag, that's just crying out for the gorgeous pearl bracelet from allabouteveshop. I do so love it, when I can create a whole new look without having to splash the cash. Mr Eve will be very pleased with my newfound frugality!

September's birthstone is Sapphire. It is available in a variety of colours except red. Sapphire's other than of the blue colour are called "Fancy Sapphire's".

The Latin word for Sapphire is "Sapphirus" meaning blue. It is also referred to as the gem of the Heavens or the Celestial gem, as it mirrors the colours of the sky at different times of the day.

Sapphire's are linked to sympathy, calmness, loyalty, truth, sincerity and faithfulness. Ancient Persians believed Sapphire's were a chip from the pedestal that held up the earth, and its reflection gave the sky its colours.

For hundreds of years blue Sapphires were the popular choice for engagement and wedding rings, now coloured Sapphire such as padparadscha and hot pink are in fashion. However blue Sapphire's still remain the most sought after!

New season resolution

Dear Evettes,

I'm considering making a new season resolution- to wear only dresses!

There are some absolutely gorgeous little numbers out there this season and I for one, will be partaking liberally. Frankly, Evettes, it's enough to make me want to go back to working in an office, just so I can get 'dressed' everyday. I don't have much call, for anything other than plastic overalls, with lil Eve's sticky fingers, but a girl can dream can't she?

There's just something about the simplicity of a dress. You don't have to faff about wondering what goes with what, it's a one-stop wonder! Those X Factor lovelies, Tulisa and Kelly have obviously had the same thought and have been rocking out in some real little beauties (anyone else just absolutely looooving the new judges panel?)

I'm really feeling, the bright jewel tones, that are all over Dotty P and don't even get me started on the fitted , just below the knee, pencil styles that are out there. However, Evettes, I reserve my real excitement for the humble wrap dress, that's making it's triumphant return from the fashion wilderness. It's just so versatile and suits all shapes and sizes. The queen of the wrap dress, Diane von Furstenberg has added a delicious little twist in the shape of a maxi wrap.

The only question now, is how to accessorise. I'd advise letting the dress do all the talking, as there are some really bold prints out there and looking like a Christmas tree is not the point of this look. Seeing as I shall be saving some money, by re-launching my vintage wrap dress (ok, I never really stopped wearing it) I'm thinking about splurging on some custom made jewellery by allabouteveshop.com. Ooh Evettes,

I feel some major excitement coming on. Last week it was lustworthy handbags, this week it's the turn of killer heels!

Even as I type this, I can hear my osteopath warning me sternly about 'the perils of high heels'. I mean, how can he understand, the special place reserved in my heart for heels that are at least 3 inches high. Does he understand the allure of a perfectly formed stiletto? skyscraper platforms or a fabulous wedge???????. Little does he know that I'm seriously considering some kind of blinged up scooter, in my old age, so I can still wear heels. My name is Ms Eve and I am a heel-aholic.

I've got my autumn uniform all sewn up-stiletto's and an array of pencil skirts. Thankfully, this season's 'must haves' are my absolute favourites- kind on the eye and flattering for my curves. Don't you just love a new season? Autumn is nearly upon us and there's so much to look forward to.

X Factor is back and I for one, will be glued to my television screen on a Saturday evening. The two new female judges are shaping up to be 'too divalicious'. I can't wait to see the 'fash off' between Tulisa and Kelly. It will be frocks at dawn! Tulisa's dress at the X factor launch was fabulous and I can't wait to see what else she's got up her sleeve.

However, my dear Evettes, I reserve my real excitement for the delicious handbags, debuting this autumn. Decisions, decisions- do I go for Mulberry's Carter, the Gucci Vintage Web or the divine Givenchy Antigona? I love them all, but alas, a decision must be made as I really shouldn't be treating myself at all. I mean, how many handbags does a girl need? (that's my husband's mantra anyway).

Evergreen fashion

In fashionland, it really is as the French say- "the more things change, the more things stay the same"

I was very excited to see that some of my own perennial favourites are 'evergreen fashion'. You know those things in your wardrobe, that you love, but the fashion world decrees as being out of fashion?

I'm an absolute sucker for a bit of leopardskin. There's nothing like it, for bringing out your inner vixen. I'm an equally big fan of a bit of metallic. Christmas just doesn't seem the same, without a pair of foxy gold stilettos. One thing I haven't really gotten into is body-con. However, given it's ability to suck you in, in all the right places, post lil Eve, might be just the time to give it a whirl.

I am always inordinately excited, when through a combination of serendipity and sheer laziness, I discover that I am in fact quite the fashion queen!

I was pleased to learn that snakeskin print is in vogue for autumn/winter. I have a trusty little Warehouse number that has served me faithfully for quite a few years. However, it could do with being replaced now and Bhs has a fab little number. It's sheer, got a pussycat bow and skims, rather than clings (those of you who share my 'mummy tummy' plight, will know how great that is).

The thing is, how does one accessorise such a bold print? Head to toe snakeskin, will evoke very bad memories of Bet Lynch in full leopardskin mode. Small accessories might get drowned out and large accessories could scream 'trying too hard'.

Well Evettes, I've always found that pearls work very well with snakeskin. Perhaps it's the odd juxtaposition of foxy mama and ladylike chic. Anyhoo, they work very well together. I really look forward to our weekly chats. As the founder, President and CEO of Mummy Inc, it's lovely to have some adult interaction ( I know, you're only cyber friends).

Speaking of Mummy Inc, I have noticed a rather worrying development in the last few months. I am now the (not) proud possessor of a little 'mummy tummy'. Known to many a woman who has had a child, it's that little tummy, that refuses to flatten, no matter what kind of punishment it's subjected to! Not big enough to warrant a pair of Spanx, but annonying nonetheless.

Happily, fellow sufferers, there is something in the autumn wardrobe, that is most definitely our friend. It's the humble pencil skirt, not just any though- a high waisted, panelled little number. The high waist avoids the dreaded 'muffin' top and the panelling creates va va voom curves.

Hard working fashion

Is it just me, or does anyone else remember when we had distinct weather seasons? You could expect a white Christmas and summer wasn't over in May!

Anyhoo, there's one advantage to the blurry seasons- you can wear your clothes for a whole lot longer. Particularly useful when you're doing the tricky, cost per wear sums and have to say to your beloved other half- 'yes darling, I know it costs the equivalent of the GDP of a small country, but I'll wear it everyday and then it will be much cheaper!'

I love this weird time of the year, when we're in the middle of summer and already thinking about what delish things we'll we wearing in the autumn.

I am a huge fan of hard working fashion, I absolutely adore bright colours, red being a particular favourite. So I'm very excited to hear that rainbow colours are still big news for autumn/winter. I'm equally psyched that i can still rock out in maxis this autumn. The tricky thing though, is working out what accessories to wear.

Out go bare legs and sandals, in come opaques and boots. Out go delicate boho pieces of jewellery and in come chunkier, more ethnic pieces. Can I like pink and still be a feminist?

My dear Evettes,

We've known each other for some time now, so I feel I can confess a little 'secret' to you. I am- in the words of one of my favourite adversaries, "one of those mad feminists". What a compliment!

I'm amazed, that even in this day and age, there's still such a kerfuffle about feminism, specifically in the context of working mothers. Grazia magazine published an interview with Miriam Gonzalez Durantez last week, where she shed a little light on how she and her husband (Nick Clegg) are making life with children and 2 high flying parents work. Predictably enough, there was a rash of commentary on why Ms Gonzalez Durantez should give up her career, in support of her husband's.

There are a myriad of definitions of what feminism is, but for me, it's always come down to one thing- choice. The right to choose how Iwant to live my life, without being confined by notions of what is 'appropriate' for a woman to do. People who go on about how it's impossible to have it all, have missed the point in my view. To be a feminist, for me, is about choosing my own definitions-including, what it means to 'have it all'. My definition of 'having it all' is fluid and changes, according to where I am in my life. For a long time, it was about my professional identity, more recently, it's been about being a mother and right now it's about being an enterpreneur, helping other women to maximise their potential.

It's about my right to be fiercely clever and still adore fashion. It's about being able to more than hold my own in any meeting, whilst wearing pink. It's about showing lil Eve that I can be amazingly successful in the work place, whilst wearing the foxiest stilettos ever!

For those of you who agree with me, you're in luck. Summer is just the time to rock out in pink. There's a shade for everyone and it looks absolutely great with a tan. My dear Evettes,

I'm very excited to see that I still have my finger firmly on the fashion pulse- in spite of the fact that I am thinking of investing in plastic coveralls, in order to avoid lil Eve's sticky fingers!

Last month, I waxed lyrical on the sheer delight of a fabulous necklace. Imagine my delight when Look magazine had a feature on great neck candy this week.

This week Evettes, I'm pondering the virtues of style versus fashion Is it better to be stylish or fashionable? I, along with many others waited with bated breath to see what the Duchess of Cambridge would step out in, on her first official tour of duty.

As it happened, there was nothing fashion forward in her repertoire, but did anyone really expect anything else? However, when I paid a bit more attention, I realised the Duchess was treading a fine line between style and fashion. She's found her style and is mixing it up with a nod to what's in fashion now.

Colour blocking?- check out the fab purple Issa number
Nautical?- Alexander McQueen anyone?
Yellow? (happily not quite mustard)- cute Jenny Packham tea dress.

Although they all look different, the silouhette is basically the same. Knee length or slightly shorter to showcase those fabulous legs., nipped in at the middle, to show off that teeny waist and form fitting to show off that generally gorgeous shape!

So dear Evettes, apparently 'mustard' is the colour du jour. Just in case you're not sure what colour that is, think of a dollop of Coleman's english mustard on your sausages.

Personally, I think it's a colour fraught with the potential to go seriously wrong. I mean what colours can you combine with it safely?

Mustard and red- 'mustard and ketchup on your hot dog ma'am?'

Mustard and blue- wrapper from a jar of Hellmans mayonnaise?

Mustard and green- got dressed in the dark and/or assisted by a demented 5 year old?

Mustard and black- zzzz, bumble bee alert

I think it's probably best to ake a leaf from Victoria Beckham's book and keep it very simple. She showed a very understated mustard dress in her last collection. It wasn't to everyone's taste, but then neither is mustard itself!

I'm going to wimp out completely and stick to accessories. Smythson had a fabulous, mustard coloured Maze bag a few seasons ago. It's no longer available, but there's bound to be loads on the high street. I'll be sticking to shoes or a piece of fab jewellery. All about Eve has got some lovely drop earrings with a mustard coloured stone.

My dear Evettes,

As you know, I am an avid purveyor of fine fashion magazines- Look and Grazia being my absolute favourites!

I like to think of both those magazines providing me with a varied diet of fabulous fashion and celebrity news. So you can imagine my concern when both of them reported that Cheryl Cole seems to be considering a reconciliation, with her ex husband.
Of course Evettes, I don't know either of them and it's a source of constant amazement to me, that I continue to follow the ups and downs of Ms Cole's life so avidly.

I couldn't help wondering why she would even consider reconciling with a man, who seems to have caused her a huge amount of pain and distress. And then it hit me- he's her 'go to' accessory. We all have something in our wardrobe that we fall back on, time and time again. Something that makes us look and feel fantastic about ourselves, something we don't have to think about, after we've got it on. For me, it's anything from my burgeoning stash of allabouteveshop jewellery. For Olivia Palermo, it seems to be her hot pink, Sondra Roberts clutch, which is admittedly lush!

And for Cheryl, it seems to be Ashley Cole. He seems to remind her of happier times, before X-Factorgate! I for one, wish her all the happiness she can stand, but hope her 'go to' accessory turns into something of a 'little black dress'. Reliable, faithful and guaranteed to stand the test of time.

Must dash now Evettes, got to read lil Eve a chapter of her favourite reading material- Monkey Puzzle. Shame it doesn't come in weekly issues, with mama monkey rocking the freshest new jungle looks.

The great British summer

Hey Evettes,

Isn't it weird? The summer sales have already started, but it doesn't really feel like we've had a summer at all yet. Ah well, as I always say, "no-one lives in England because of the weather"

Speaking of the summer, I was perusing one of my favourite weekly fashion magazines and I was delighted to see celebs flying the flag for the great British high street. There was a veritable slew of them! I've always found it odd that the people who can actually afford designer prices, get oodles of designer stuff for nothing. Leaving them free to splash the cash on high street goodies.

Don't be fooled though, there's usually at least one designer piece in the mix. Ususally, it's a luxe handbag or a fab piece of jewellery. Personally, I'm a fan of gorgeous bags, but I'm not averse to sneaking in a little piece of jewellery gorgeousness.

My favourite jewellery haunt, all about eve, has some great little pieces that will jazz up any outfit, but still allow the full delishiousness of your favourite handbag to shine through. I've got my eye on the new turquoise cuff from the Originals by Eve range, as well as the fabulous mzuri bead bracelets- try stacking two together, for some serious arm candy.

Got to dash now Evettes, lil Eve is trying to eat her shoes. I don't think she's grasped the idea that even though one's shoes look good enough to eat, you don't actually have to eat them!

Trips far, far away

Hey Evettes,

All about Eve exhibited at the MS Chilterns summer fete last week. Frankly Evettes, it was so far, I felt like I needed a passport just to get there!

Anyhoo, Saturday was great, but we were rained out on Sunday.

We took some of our bestselling stainless steel and mother of pearl pieces as well as some of our gorgeous new stuff. The lava rock bracelets and cufflinks attracted quite a bit of attention. Quite a few people asked where the lava came from. I was tempted to say we mined it directly from the Icelandic eruption, but that would have been a bit naughty. All I will say is that no volcanoes were harmed in the making of our jewellery and lava looks way cooler as cufflinks.

I couldn't resist treating myself to a stunning coral and lava bead set, which i shall be rocking out in all summer.

This was lil Eve's first exhibition and she was a real trooper. We took her along as our 'secret' weapon. She attracted the punters with her cute self and we sold them jewellery- this was our cunning plan and it worked brilliantly.

Must dash, lil Eve is about to yank the earrings out of her aunt's ears (she's got very good taste already)

X-Factorgate

So Evettes,

X-Factorgate rumbles on. Nicole Scherzinger is unveiled as Cheryl Cole's replacement, Cheryl is reportedly in hiding, but shock horror- Cheryl is auctioning off her X-Factor dresses. Although, it's for a good cause, it still sends shivers down my spine at the sheer loveliness being auctioned off.

Say what you like about the princess of the North East, but one thing's for sure, when it comes to dresses, she wears 'em well!

She was rocking out in stripes as far back as 2008, with a fab Herve Leger number. My particular favourite though, is the much derided David Koma, fan mini dress that she wore in November 2009. It was bold, it was edgy and frankly a bit of a risk for her, but i think she just about pulled it off!

Something i find intruiging though, is that while Cheryl gives great dress, she rarely wears necklaces. Now Evettes, I loooove a great dress, but i love me a great necklace even more.

The fabulous multitaskingness of a great necklace. It can dress up a plain tee and jeans combo or give your lbd a bit of an edge. It can do casual and it can go to the ball. Best of all, when everything else doesn't feel right because of the dreaded 'fat day' bloat, you can still rock out with a great necklace. I like to think of it as the accessory that keeps on giving.

June's Birthstones

June's birthstones are Alexandrite, Moonstone and Pearls.

Alexandrite: This is a very rare gemstone, depending on the light it can appear green, purple or red. It is also described as an Emerald by day and a Ruby by night. It is known as the "gem of the Tsars" because the gem was found in Russia's Ural mountains, it was named for Tsar Alexander II. Folklore has it that because of its two colours it brings loneliness if you only wear one piece, it strengthens the wearers intuition, aids creativity & inspires the imagination.

Moonstone: This was popular with the Romans who thought it was formed out of moonlight. It is also known as Adularia and Selenite. Moonstone traditionally has a silvery blue sheen, and can be transparent, translucent or opaque. There are various legends surrounding this stone; an Asian legend has it that it was set in the forehead of a four-handed Indian god who represented the moon. In ancient Rome it was thought to be solidified rays of the moon and the glimmering light within was thought to be the light of the good spirit that lived within the gem. They also believed that a picture of Diana the goddess of the moon can be seen in every moonstone. It is said to be a highly prized stone for lovers as it arouses passion.

Pearls: These are one of the oldest known gems and considered one of the most valuable. Romans particularly loved pearls, they thought it was a symbol of wealth and power. Emperor Caligula was said to have made his horse a consul, and then decorated said horse with pearls. Julius Caesar was said to have been able to value them just by holding them, Cleopatra was said to have crushed one of her pearl earrings into her wine and drink it to show she could drink the wealth of nations. The Chinese believe pearls have medicinal qualities such as helping with eye ailments, heart trouble, indigestion, fever & bleeding. In the Hindu religion the presentation of an un-drilled pearl and its piercing is part of the wedding ceremony. In the West they are considered ideal wedding gifts as they represent purity and innocence, it is also a gift for the 3rd & 30th wedding anniversaries.

Hey Evettes,

Ms Eve here. The sun's finally shining and I'm thinking about my summer wardrobe. Colour blocking, clashing, colour blocking to be precise is BIG news!

However, I'm old enough to remember the trend from the first time round and I'm thinking, no, no a 1000 times no. Then, I saw the hot Gucci outfits and the fabulous ( and definitely more affordable) Karen Millen colour block bag. I loooove that bag and as soon as I have it in my hot little hands, I'm sure it will love me right back.

So, I'm thinking, whilst I may not do the whole colour block outfit, I can definitely get on trend with my accessories. The delish Karen Millen bag and my lovely multicoloured choker from allabouteveshop.com will see me through the summer methinks.

The new adventures of Ms Eve

Ms Eve reporting for duty. Just got back from sunnier climes and completely bowled over by the fab summer fashion i saw on my travels.
Dresses in jewel colours, the highest stacked heels and of course, great jewellery to go with it! I'm loving my bright pink mzuri beads and rocking them them with a form fitting pencil dress. Just the thing to give me an extra wiggle.
So, i was thinking, Lady Gaga has her little monsters and Glee has Gleeks. Everyone who's anyone has a pet name for their fans. I hereby name you : the Evettes- has a very stylish ring don't you think?
